The Sculpture sketches
What are the sculpture sketches ?
My Process for Developing Bronze Sculpture
Creating bronze sculptures is a meticulous and lengthy journey that begins with the foundational step of sketching in clay . I find that sketching mainly in clay allows me to explore and understand the subject matter, as well as to refine my ideas and designs. These initial sketches serve as a blueprint for my creative vision.
Once I have a solid concept, I create an initial mold from the sketches. This mold is then used to cast a template in plaster or resin.
The next phase involves significant reworking. I focus on sharpening lines and refining shapes, which often requires extensive sanding. This process can be time-consuming, but it is essential for achieving the desired level of detail and precision. Once I am satisfied with the reworked piece, it is ready to be sent to the foundry for the next stage of production.
At the foundry, the piece undergoes the lost wax method for bronze casting. This is where the sculpture truly comes to life in its final material. However, it’s important to note that not all initial designs make it to the bronze stage. Many of the initial molds end up being discarded, which can feel like a loss.
To address this, I have decided to cast some of my initial sketches in resin. This not only preserves the creative process but also allows me to share more of my artistic journey with others. By doing so, I can celebrate the evolution of my ideas while minimizing waste and creating unique pieces that reflect my artistic exploration.
The Journey from Sketch to bronze Sculpture: A New Collection in Resin
The sketches I create are an integral part of my artistic process, serving as the foundation for my bronze sculptures and now, a new collection exclusively in resin. Each sketch is a reflection of my ideas, emotions, and the subjects I wish to explore, allowing me to visualize and refine my concepts before they take physical form.
Traditionally, these sketches would lead to the creation of bronze sculptures, involving a detailed and labor-intensive process. However, I have recently decided to expand my artistic repertoire by developing a collection that focuses solely on resin.
By casting these sketches in resin, I can preserve the spontaneity and originality of my ideas while offering a more accessible option for art enthusiasts. This new direction not only celebrates my artistic journey but also minimizes waste, as I can bring to life many of the concepts that might not have transitioned to bronze.
In essence, my sculpture sketches are not just preliminary designs; they are the heart of my creative process, leading to a vibrant new collection in resin that reflects my evolving artistic vision. I am excited to share this journey with others and invite them to experience the beauty and depth of my work in both bronze and resin.
